Business Plan
Alright bitches, first thing we're gonna need for a self-sustaining /tg/ colony is a business plan. Something that will keep the facility in the black once it's up and running. Don't want it to go and fall apart after all that hard work, do we?
Ideas so far:
-Server farm
--Data Storage
--Tech Support
-Tourist attraction
--Night Club
--Gaming Bunker
--It's a frakking missile silo
-Art
--Miniatures Line
--Costume Shop
--Animation Studio
-Farming
--Traditional
--Energy
-Sponsorship
--Social Experiment
--Gaming Companies
--Renewability Grants
P.S.: Any job we could perform out of the silo is going to require qualified people. Add any potentially marketable skills to your signature, or just post them here so that we have an idea of what our collective abilities are. (Digital Art major/Computer Science minor reporting in).

Re: Business Plan
Someone mentioned art commissions for miniatures and such like that, in addition to creating a custom model line.
There was also the option of infinitymoney, closing off all interaction from the outside world like a true neckbeard.

Hmm. There are always call-centre type jobs, tech support and such which can be handled via phone line.

There was also the option of opening a gaming-centered nightclub, or a gaming bunker.
Also, creating costumes for cosplayers. Those things are damn expensive.

Re: Business Plan
a server farm is probably going to be our best bet for steady income. We could also do some farming to make ourselves more self sufficient.

Fucking commerce, how does it work?
I like the tech support idea. We'll likely have enough telecom equipment in there anyway that it wouldn't be too farfetched. The miniatures line's good as well, though god help us if we try to come up with rules. We all know how that usually ends. The club's probably a given, as we'll need some place to unwind/drink.
What else we got?

Re: Business Plan
- Tech support
- Unique line of miniatures
- Club
- Cosplay creations
Perhaps create a new anime series? Given things go well, that would skyrocket profits. We already have -the- best thinktank humanity has ever seen.
Also, I suggest OP editing the first post every now and then with a list of ideas for the moneymaking.

We will essentialy be living in a movie set so we might as well utilize that for what it's worth.
In the end the furry porn/art commission plan wasn't bad either - moral problems aside it's easy money.
Someone also had an idea of having a dropboxesque file backup service established there.

If this goes through, I suggest keeping the artists anonymous. Nobody wants valuable contributors purged for heresy.

Anyone else thinking of having the Warhammer 40K guys as guards / security / keepers of the peace from this post?

I'm pretty sure we would outfit the security force to look like stormtroopers.GrandHistorian wrote:Diggy wrote:

I think security's going to be very case-by-case. Half the nerds I know can barely lug their minis cases around, much less incapacitate a fellow gamer on a zip-kicker-fueled rampage.

Now we just need an ironworks in the basement to turn out bolters and chainswords.
Well obviously that's what tasers are for.

Re: Business Plan
I'm definitely liking the Club idea, and I have always had dreams of running / operating a club in this lifetime.
Of course, I'm also a poorfag. And thus have no steady flow of income.
It will also be very hard for a club to become successful if it's out in the middle of fucking nowhere, it would need to be at least within driving distance of an urban area to get some form of costumer base. (That is, if the club is to make money and not just a place to cool down after your 20 hour long stormtrooper patrolling the halls contract.)
I'm just saying now that unless this place is top of the line, I doubt anyone would want to visit there enough to have a club up and running constantly.

Re: Business Plan
Getting off topic there guys, back to business plans.
Seeing as how the silo would be in need of renovation first, we couldn't start anything in the bunker to begin with. What we would need to do is start something on the surface to be moved in later.
Honestly though, we do not need to put the industrial support mechanisms inside the bunker.
The bunker is living and logistical spaces. Self containable. Why would we self-contain something that needs access to the outside? We would have a bunker with limited space filled with the stuff.
In a nut shell, the business support should not be in the bunker, just supporting it.

Keep in mind part of the fun of this adventure is the suvivalism. No zombies will catch the Dorf Fort unprepared.
We should have all essential services (power, plumbing, etc) as protected by the bunker as we can get.

You make a college or tech university and bring students in, u get cash from tuition and they surely will go to your clubs n stuff. We surely have folks with degrees n stuff who would teach.

Someone in the thread mentioned leeching the fuck out of sponsors by having a constant con/game tournament thing going on.

Re: Business Plan
There's a couple ways we can do this... But I suggest to hold off on location-based plans until we select an actual location to purchase.

See, the thing is though, that if we put this stuff outside that means we would need to spend more money to place housing / space / cover or whatever it is you're doing. We're just looking for the most economically sound way to generate some form of income ASAP.
Thus, we could in fact move it outside at a later point, but right off the bat we'd need to build houses before we can put clubs / servers / sweatshops for our miniature lines in there.

Re: Business Plan
Taking someone's idea from the thread, I think the idea of renting rooms is a reasonable way to make a bit of money. Probably not anywhere near what we need, but money is money.

I can imagine a lot of novelty in this, especially with casual gamers just planning to visit.
Perhaps have themed immersion hotels ranging from a Dark Heresy spaceship to a DnD town/tavern?

Re: Business Plan
A good way to make money beyond sponsors would be to build a company out of it and be opened to the stock markets.
