Let everyone else pay for it aka Hooray for grants!
As it has already been noted in some threads, we can amass far more funds through government grants, corporate sponsors and 3rd party donations if we play our cards right.
The goal would be to raise 3,000,000 to buy Titan.
To reach this goal we should try to maximize the grands we can get as well as everything else. Up to now ideas include
Valve, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft: game tournaments, conventions and events
Construction/steel/etc companies: let them test prototype ideas
Government, state: renewable green energy, carbon neutrality
Greenpeace, Al Gore: green energy, carbon neutrality
Various companies: Ad space on walls/billboards
Ordinary folks: URIST HAMMERBEARD WILL CARVE YOU INTO THE WALL FOR $100, similar vanity-based stunts
Now as I'm not american I don't really know how stuff works over there so please, add to this list and fix problems in it.

All about the green, baby.

If we were to do this I'd actually prefer for us to be carbon neutral and use green energy.

You guys are too kind. Also, it looks like Kansas has been receiving quite a few big money grants for green energy recently. They received $6 million this year under the Recovery Act for green jobs. I need to look at it further, but we could also fall under the USDA Rural Energy For America Program (REAP).

Colorado has also been awarding grants to companies as part of a green energy initiative. They received $17 million from the Recovery Act, most of which they have spent on companies promising some sort of innovative use beyond just providing power back to the grid.

To get that kind of cash, I think we'd have to prove we would be burning tons of fossil fuel if we weren't being paid for renewable power.

The original plan for this was to haul in bigass diesel generators.Anon wrote:To get that kind of cash, I think we'd have to prove we would be burning tons of fossil fuel if we weren't being paid for renewable power.

It's not impossible, but I think the Nike site is probably the best bet at this point. Colorado might have gotten $17 million, but that was split up in million dollar chunks between energy and research companies. The smaller businesses rarely received more than $50,000. That's not much towards Titan, but a similar grant in Kansas would get the Nike site on a 20 year mortgage, with money left over.

while 3M$ is the price to buy the facility, I fear that you'll have to quadruple that number to reach for the actual cost of our activities
-We'll need to build.
-We'll need to clean the surface and make it pretty.
-We'll need to buy vehicles.
-We'll need to pay employees.
-We'll need advertisement.
And I suspect that we'll have to remove asbestos and other naughty substances...

Not to mention on going costs for things like food, supplies of every kind, etc.

That as well. Even if we do become self sufficient in food, your still going to require other supplies, as well as the initial food while your trying to get the farming going.
